The Product Review Shelf...

Where do I keep all of those products I buy before I review them? On my product shelf of course! I thought I'd give you a peek behind the scenes at HomeSpaGoddess.com and The HSG Show...

This is my shelf. I review a LOT of stuff, so I have to keep things organized.














The baskets are organized by week. All of the products I'm going to use that week are in that weeks basket. When I buy new products they just go in the next available basket. As of today I have baskets labeled up to March 25, 2007.















Some weeks have more products than others - I'm going to be very busy the week of Jan. 22!

My Latest Fountain...

Since todays HSG Show is all about Home Spa Accessories and I consider fountains home spa accessories I wanted to share my latest fountain with you. It's the Envirascape Eternal Rain fountain from Homedics.

It was $19 at Ulta, down from $24. I LOVE fountains and I have 6 in my apartment right now. Homedics is my favorite brand, I own several of their fountains, including the Envirascape Shimmering Towers Illuminated Relaxation Fountain, the Envirascape Illuminated Rock Garden Relaxation Fountain, and the Envirascape Relaxing Rains Rain Forest Fountain (this one has sounds).

You have to be vigilant with table top fountains when it comes to the water. You need to top it off every other day, wipe off and scale that's formed and completely change the water regularly or algae and odor will take over. I change mine and clean my fountains once a month, but that's only because I treat the water all month long. How do I do that? Well, I use a capful of bleach every week to keep algae from forming. It works for me although some people say it creates foam. I've never had that problem.

A "day on" instead of a "day off"...

I have the day off today because it's Martin Luther King Day. Instead of lounging around all day, I'm going to make it a "day on" instead of a "day off" and do something constructive. For me this includes cleaning up, organizing the next batch of HSG Shows and reviewing products. I'm also organizing my diet plan. Watch this video of his "I Have a Dream Speech" and have your own "day on".

P.S. No book this week. I'll make it up later:)

Well, I moved too slow. I went to Ulta.com yesterday to buy some HIP eye shadows and all they had left were two shades, Mischief and Playful! I guess I'll have to go to the store. (Sigh) They had every shade on Friday....

52 Books in 52 Weeks - Week 2

My book this week is a re-read, it's Spa : Refreshing Rituals for Body and Soul by the Body Shop. This book was this first book I bought when I decided to start HomeSpaGoddess.com four years ago. I was supposed to have this whole "Book Club" thing. We all know how that turned out.

This book has the most amazing pictures of home spa treatments, for the face hair and body. I paid $20 for it, but I was so shocked to see it in Borders this summer for $3! But, duh, it is four years old.

You can get it from sellers on Amazon for $5.69. I highly recommend it.

XXL Mascara is dunzo..

I know I said in Friday’s HSG Show that I was gonna give Maybelline's XXL Mascara another chance. Well the bloom is off the rose. I can't seem to get the primer to disappear this week!

It's white and the mascara is supposed to stick and create "XXL" eyelashes. Hmph! I apply it, then apply the mascara and my lashes look gray! The site says XXL is supposed to "Oversize your lashes", but for me that hasn’t been the case.




My new mascara is Unstoppable, also by Maybelline. According to the site it’s "A washable, lengthening mascara" that offers "zero-budge and zero-smudge for 12 hours!"

It also "lengthens lashes up to 50%" and "comes off easily" so "no more panda eyes!"

All I have to say is so far, so good. I don't have a rave review but it's better than XXL.I'll use it of for the rest of the week and let you know what I think.

L'Oreal HIP Eyeshadow, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

1. Your color remains true from the pot to my eyelid (This is MAJOR for me, and anyone else with brown skin)

2. You're easy to apply

3. You last all day

4. You have cool packaging

I could go on and on...and I will!

I am officially obsessed with these eye shadows! I've got chocolate brown skin and freakishly oily eyelids so eyeshadow is usually a nightmare for me - until now. I bought a the eyeshadow duo Spirited at Ulta and it's changed my life! My next purchase will be Charisma, pictured above.

They are not kidding when they say highly pigmented. I didn't pay much attention to this line when it debuted because I just thought it was hype. This led to an unintentionally heavy application on my first try with these. I was used to using a heavy hand when it came to eyeshadow and applied waaaay to much. These take a light touch, blend like a dream and last all day.

52 Books in 52 Weeks - Week 1

Urbane Girl had the fabulous idea to read 52 Books in 52 Weeks. I LOVE this idea!!

She's reading all kinds of books but I'm going to stick to bath, beauty, bathroom design and spa books. My first book is The Bath Gourmet by Rhonda Van. I bought this book a few months ago and I absolutely love it. She has created a bath "cookbook" with a bath recipe for whatever ails you. All of the items you need for the baths can be found in the supermarket, and she gives you warnings about how messing something will get. There is even space in the back for your own notes.

I'm still going to stick with my new years resolution to read a novel every month. I'll let you know when I pick my books.

She blinded me with spa science...

I wish I had gotten this for Christmas:)

I saw this months ago at the Museum of Science and Industry. It was $29 at the museum shop.

As soon as I got home I looked it up online and of course I found it cheaper. The lowest price I located was on Amazon for $15.95.
