Island Beauty featuring Experiments in Makeup

While watching "Lost" online a few weeks ago, my thoughts drifted to beauty products. Let's say all of my basic needs (food, water, shelter) are covered. What beauty products would I bring with me to a deserted island? What if I could only bring seven things? I would get an unlimited supply of these seven items, but I could only bring seven beauty items. What would I pick?

I posed this question to some of my favorite beauty bloggers and the answers were informative, thought provoking and funny! "Island Beauty" will be a Wednesday staple here on HomeSpaGoddess.com for the next few months.

psychoexgirlfriend, the beauty behind the Experiments in Makeup beauty blog, is this week's Island Beauty. Here is her "Island Beauty Shopping List":

"Since beautiful skin is the basis for a beatiful face...
1) Linacare Transforming Face Cream Light is my main moisturizer these days. Linacare is a Vancouver based skincare line, and so far my skin has never looked or felt better. I only need the lightest dab on each side of my face and I'm good to go. Works as a day cream, night cream and an eye cream. It keeps my skin soft and supple. I've also noticed the redness on my cheeks dissipating in the last 6 weeks since I've started using it.

2) Philosophy's Purity Made Simple cleanser. It does a great job of washing everything off my face at the end of the day. And it doesn't strip my skin of all its moisture, so my skin is still soft afterwards. Not overly drying but still a very effective cleanser. I stopped using toner and eye makeup remover after I started using this. I just don't need it anymore.

3) Kiehl's Lip Balm SPF 15. Because the feeling of chapped lips is horrible. I love how effective this stuff is - just fifteen minutes on my lips in the morning before applying my lipstick/gloss of the day and my lips are good for the rest of the day. Plus the SPF is a must for those who are prone to cold sores like me. (Yuck)

Now that we've covered basic skin care, onto the fun stuff..
4) Stila Liquid Luminizer #6. it's a peachy pink liquid highlighter. A dab onto my cheekbones, browbone and inner corners of my eyes and I'm glowing like a goddess. As much as darker colours contour, highlighters do an amazing job of sculpting something out of nothing. Read: my cheekbones.

5) Bonne Bell Eye Definer in Black Ink. Yes it costs approximately $2, but it's great for smudging on the upper eye for a smoky eye, tightlining for subtle definition and all around the waterline for a dramatic look. (Y'know in case any sexy pirates or sailors stray my way on the island.)

6) Pout Apricot Totty blush. Just the perfect healthy flush of colour and sparkle to my cheeks which I'm sure will look amazing against the deep island tan I've developed since being deserted. Bonus: it comes with a mirror so I can apply my eyeliner on straight too.

And finally, haircare...assuming we have access of some sort to shampoo/conditioner...
7) John Frieda's Starlit Waves. Just like Bumble & Bumble's ridiculously overpriced Surf Spray. This helps coax out the natural waves in my hair which I'd rather do on a beach than try to tame it with a straightening. Looks very sexy and makes me feel like Gisele... (even though I'm neither blond, tall, Brazilian nor do I have a 23 inch waist. Heck, my head's not even 23 inches.)

I'm surprised how many skincare products I chose since I was never a big advocate for skincare until my skin started improving. And I'm surprised I left out eyeshadow altogether since I have such an overgrown collection. Yet, I have two cheek products. Hmmm...."
